Lexus Forum Guide
With plenty of awards and countless sales under its belt, it might appear to many casual observers that Lexus has been operating in the United States for generations. Truth be told, Toyota didn't launch its luxury brand until 1989 with the debut of the Lexus LS and Lexus ES 250 sedans. Two years later, the company followed up with the Lexus SC 400 and Lexus SC 300 coupes; the Lexus ES 300 replaced the ES 250 at about the same time.
By 1993, the marque was growing again, this time thanks to the addition of the Lexus GS 300, the brand's first sport sedan. That car was soon joined by a new V8-powered GS 400, the entry-level Lexus IS 300, and the Lexus SC 430 hardtop convertible. Boundaries continued to stretch with the debut of the five-door Lexus IS 300 SportCross, though all IS 300 variants eventually bid adieu and were replaced by the Lexus IS 250 and Lexus IS 350 in 2006. By the early 1990s, the Lexus brand was expanded to other markets, including the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Over the next few years, the company grew its line to include SUVs, with the addition of the LX 450 and RX 300. By the end of the decade, Lexus had sold over a million vehicles in the U.S. The 2000s saw Lexus proving itself a trendsetter with the launch of many hybrid-powered versions of its vehicles such as the RX 400h and the GS 450h.
In the years since its inception, the Lexus brand has distinguished itself time and again in quality and reliability surveys. The brand may not offer as much passion as its Teutonic rivals, but for drivers interested in vehicles that emphasize quality, dependability and comfort, the Lexus marque can't be beat. Sharing technology with the RX 450h are the Lexus LS 600h L and the Lexus HS 250h, suggesting that hybrid development is alive and well within the minds of company engineers. The attractive Lexus IS convertible and 500-horsepower Lexus LF-A concept lead one to believe that designers and engine tuners are thinking equally hard.
